Summary: The Process Control Systems Engineer will be responsible for analyzing, designing, specifying, installing, and commissioning new solutions for Process Control systems, ensuring maximum efficiency and throughput of plant processes. The role involves programming, maintaining existing systems, and preparing specifications based on operational discussions. The engineer will also assess tenders and attend to fault corrections and commissioning as needed. A background in engineering or computer science, along with relevant experience, is essential for success in this position.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Undertake program design, coding, testing, documentation, and modification work as required to meet the needs of the plant.
  • Adhere to quality assurance policies regarding design, development, and support of software.
  • Maintain and monitor existing Process Control (level2) computer systems to ensure maximum availability to the plant.
  • Prepare system/solution specifications based on discussions with the Operational Teams.
  • Assess and appraise tenders for the best technical and cost-effective solution.
  • Commission completed systems to meet the specifications of the plant.
  • Attend plant out of hours for fault correction escalations, commissioning, trials, investigations, or support.

Key Skills:

  • Relevant degree in engineering or computer science.
  • Experience in a similar role with strong knowledge of software development techniques and computer languages (Python and .NET).
  • Familiarity with databases (MS SQL and MySQL) and operating systems, networks, hardware, and software tools.
  • Ability to work at a detailed level during fault finding.
  • Knowledge of MES (Manufacturing Execution System) and Steel Manufacturing Processes.
  • Experience with legacy systems (FORTRAN and OpenVMS).
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to communicate complex technical issues clearly.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team from initial concept to final delivery.
  • Experience in supporting manufacturing systems in an industrial context.
