Summary: The Process Commissioning Engineer is responsible for managing all process-related activities within projects, ensuring safe and efficient commissioning of water and wastewater treatment plants. This role involves supervising site staff and subcontractors, conducting process evaluations, and liaising with clients and vendors. The engineer will also produce documentation and reports, ensuring compliance with health and safety standards. This position is a contract role classified as outside IR-35.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance with company procedures and quality assurance systems.
  • Conduct process commissioning of water and/or wastewater treatment plants.
  • Perform process evaluation trials and prepare detailed reports.
  • Undertake plant acceptance demonstrations and record performance data.
  • Conduct seasonal plant performance trials.
  • Troubleshoot operating plants and processes.
  • Liaise with clients and assist in preparing Method Statements.
  • Coordinate with vendors and suppliers for equipment commissioning.
  • Perform analytical testing during commissioning activities.
  • Supervise and train client staff on treatment plant operations.
  • Produce and update commissioning documentation and manuals.
  • Comply with health and safety responsibilities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned within the UK and overseas.

Key Skills:

  • Formal qualification in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, or related discipline (minimum HNC or equivalent preferred).
  • IOSH Managing Safely in Construction or NEBOSH equivalent.
  • Demonstrable experience in process commissioning within the water and wastewater industry.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other IT packages.
  • Effective communication skills across all levels.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Strong problem-solving and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.

Job Title: Process Commissioning Engineer
Reports to: Commissioning Leader
Department: Commissioning
This is a Contract role, Outside IR-35 with a Negotiable Day Rate
Purpose
The Process Commissioning Engineer is required to manage all process related activities within the Project and ensure that, at site level, all process commissioning activities are conducted in a safe, efficient, and environmentally acceptable manner.
Supervision Exercised:
The direction of other site installation and commissioning staff during commissioning if applicable. Where appropriate, the supervision of sub-contractors performing operations appertaining to plant completion and commissioning on assigned projects within the UK.
Received:
Direction from the Commissioning Leader. When working on a specific site, direction from the Site Manager and Commissioning Manager.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
To ensure compliance with company procedures and work instructions, guide notes and other information that forms part of the quality assurance, health and safety and environmental management systems.
The process commissioning of water and/or wastewater treatment plants.
To perform process evaluation trials, preparing detailed reports and recommendations based upon the results of these trials.
To undertake plant acceptance/takeover demonstrations and to record and report all relevant plant performance and quality data to meet contractual and Company requirements.
To undertake seasonal plant performance trials to meet contractual requirements.
To trouble shoot operating plant and processes where performance criteria are not being maintained.
To liaise with Clients Representatives at site level to agree modes of operation and, where applicable, assist in the preparation of Method Statements to cover commissioning activities.
To liaise with Vendors and Suppliers to ensure the correct commissioning and operation of equipment and items of plant.
To perform analytical testing during commissioning activities.
The supervision and training of Client staff in the theory and operation of treatment plant.
To produce, review and revise commissioning documentation and update Operation and Maintenance Manuals.
To comply with all Health and Safety responsibilities commensurate with the role, as outlined in the Health and Safety policy.
Any other duties commensurate with the position as may be assigned from time to time both within the UK and overseas.
Performance Measures
The successful and efficient commissioning and hand-over of plant in accordance with defined programmes.
The completion of commissioning and performance documentation.
The effective training of Client staff.
The production of concise, accurate and effective process evaluation reports.
Qualifications & Experience Criteria Requirement
Essential/Desirable Qualifications/Skills - A Formal Qualification In Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering or a closely related discipline (minimum HNC or equivalent preferred)
IOSH Managing Safely in Construction or NEBOSH equivalent
Knowledge and experience
Demonstrable experience, commensurate to the level of the role, in process commissioning within the water and wastewater industry and/or related sectors.
Ability to use a wide range of IT packages including Microsoft Office
