Summary: The role of a probation officer involves working in an office setting with a focus on the OPD pathway, aimed at managing individuals with personality disorders who are at risk of reoffending. Responsibilities include assessing offender needs, preparing reports, managing risks, and delivering accredited programs. The position requires a strong background in probation services and evidence-based practices. The job holder must also facilitate learning events and support operational staff within the Probation Service.
Key Responsibilities:
- Working with individuals on probation to analyze and address their behavior.
- Assessing offender needs and preparing reports for court and parole.
- Managing the risk of serious harm posed by individuals.
- Accurate case recording and documentation.
- Delivering and leading accredited programs in adherence to the Programme Manual.
- Facilitating learning events and providing guidance and support to operational staff.
- Accepting reasonable alterations and additional tasks of a similar level as necessary.
Key Skills:
- Possession of a Probation Qualification Framework Graduate Diploma/Honours Degree in Community Justice integrated with Level 5 Diploma in Probation Practice.
- Evidence of working for a recognized provider of probation services in the last 5 years.
- Experience with evidence-based practice and risk/needs assessment tools (OASys, SARA, RSR).
- Ability to write detailed reports to strict deadlines and quality standards.
- Experience using and maintaining Probation Service computer-based systems (NDelius, OASys).
- Working knowledge of Multi Agency Public Protection Arrangements.
