Summary: The Privacy Data Protection Lead will support a Central Government client on a 6-month contract, focusing on UK GDPR compliance and data protection principles. The role requires expertise in legal knowledge, technical experience with AI, and strong communication skills to engage with various stakeholders. The position is based in East London, with bi-weekly office visits required. The ideal candidate will have a background in public sector data governance and risk assessment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide expert legal knowledge on UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.
- Deliver data protection advice within digital projects, particularly involving AI or Machine Learning.
- Conduct and support Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs).
- Advise on data sharing agreements and implement data transfer mechanisms.
- Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Key Skills:
- In-depth knowledge of UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018.
- Privacy qualifications (e.g., CIPP/E, CIPM) are highly desirable.
- Experience with AI and Machine Learning systems.
- Ability to conduct DPIAs collaboratively.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience in the public sector is desirable.

Summer-Browning Associates are currently supporting our Central Government client who are seeking a Privacy Data Protection Lead on an initial 6 month contract
Service Location: London, Bristol OR Manchester - (London office visits required bi-weekly)
The ideal candidate:
- Expert Legal Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018, including a comprehensive understanding of data protection principles and individual rights. Privacy qualifications (e.g., CIPP/E, CIPM) are highly desirable.
- Technical & AI Experience: Proven experience delivering data protection advice and work within digital projects, preferably involving Artificial Intelligence or Machine Learning systems.
- Risk Assessment: Demonstrable ability to conduct and support Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) with a collaborative, pragmatic, and enabling attitude.
- Data Governance: Experience advising on data sharing agreements and implementing appropriate data transfer mechanisms.
- Collaboration & Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and concisely with a range of technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Public Sector Experience (Desirable): Experience working in or with the public sector and an understanding of government ways of working.
