Summary: The role of Principle Design Engineer involves overseeing engineering activities for EHV/HV AIS & GIS substation projects, ensuring compliance with standards and managing engineering teams. The position requires engagement in technical discussions, budget management, and development of technical solutions. Candidates must possess a degree in Electrical Engineering and extensive substation engineering experience. The role is classified as outside IR35 and involves ad hoc travel.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee all engineering activities from project start to completion, ensuring compliance with standards, QA/QC, and HSSE.
- Lead EHV/HV AIS & GIS substation projects and manage engineering teams (local & remote).
- Coordinate civil, structural, protection, and control system interfaces.
- Engage in technical discussions with customers/suppliers and handle site queries.
- Manage engineering budgets, schedules, risk, and change processes.
- Develop technical solutions, specifications, and cost estimates.
- Review supplier designs, attend factory/site tests, and support tenders.
Key Skills:
- Degree in Electrical Engineering (Bachelor's or Master's).
- Extensive substation engineering experience, including NG, SSEN & SPEN standards.
- Certifications: Principal Designer (PD) / LCDAE (National Grid), CEng (or working towards).
- Strong expertise in substation design, layouts, grounding, switchgear, and system studies.
- Familiarity with protection & control systems, AutoCAD/MicroStation, and MS Office.
