Summary: The Principal Youth Offending Service Practitioner role in the London Borough of Havering involves leading complex cases within the Youth Offending Service, providing expert guidance, and developing intervention plans to support young people. This hybrid position requires strong interpersonal skills and a deep understanding of the Youth Justice System, with a focus on reducing youth offending. The role is temporary, with an initial contract of three months and the possibility of extension.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead on complex cases, offering expert guidance and supervision to team members.
  • Complete detailed assessments and develop effective intervention and supervision plans.
  • Write comprehensive reports for courts, panels, and professional settings.
  • Represent the YOS and the Local Authority in criminal court proceedings and multi-agency meetings.
  • Provide non-negotiable, targeted support to young people to prevent reoffending.
  • Engage directly with children, families, and partner agencies to facilitate meaningful change.

Key Skills:

  • In-depth knowledge of the Youth Justice System and its legislative framework.
  • Proven experience working in youth offending, youth work, or offender supervision (paid or voluntary).
  • Prior supervisory experience or acting in a leadership capacity.
  • Strong interpersonal and engagement skills, particularly with young people.
  • Excellent report writing and assessment skills.
  • Ability to work flexibly and proactively in a fast-paced, multi-agency environment.
