Summary: The Principal Systems Accountant will oversee the system accounting function within Corporate Finance, ensuring the integrity of finance systems. This role involves managing a team of accountants, improving financial systems and processes, and supporting the year-end closure of accounts. The position requires collaboration with IT and external bodies to maintain compliance and deliver accurate financial reporting. A strong background in public sector finance and team management is essential for success in this role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure finance systems meet management and statutory reporting requirements through regular data integrity reviews and reconciliations.
- Manage a team of accountants to maintain and enhance financial systems and processes.
- Deputise for the Process Improvement Manager as needed.
- Collaborate with IT ERP Team to resolve system issues and test solutions.
- Contribute to the year-end Statement of Accounts and manage internal and external audit processes.
- Develop financial and management reports to support corporate processes.
- Assist in completing statutory returns and liaise with external bodies as necessary.
- Deliver key reconciliations for subsidiaries.
Key Skills:
- Fully qualified CCAB accountant or AAT/part qualified or equivalent.
- Knowledge of accounting principles and Local Government Finance.
- Experience in large complex organizations and financial systems administration.
- Understanding of Financial Management systems, particularly General Ledger systems.
- Experience in team management and staff development.
- Prior experience in public sector organizations.
