Summary: The role of Principal/Senior HVAC Engineer involves leading HVAC design and support for a major nuclear project in a multidisciplinary environment. Key Responsibilities:
- Manage a small team of engineers/designers.
- Design ventilation systems from basic principles with an understanding of containment philosophy.
- Produce HVAC system design deliverables, specifying heat rejection plant.
- Design HVAC systems for cooling industrial process environments.
- Conduct steam system design and produce system schematics/Engineering Flow Diagrams (EFDs).
- Prepare psychrometric calculations.
- Engage with clients and stakeholders as a subject matter expert.
Key Skills:
- Degree in Building Services Engineering or minimum HND with extensive industry experience.
- Experience with industry-standard software such as Hevacomp, Revit, and Pipenet.
- Awareness of EG_0_1738_1 - Ventilation of Radioactive Areas.
- Demonstrable experience in a similar role/environment within a regulated industry.
- Understanding of AutoCAD packages and their capabilities.
- Thermal modelling experience is advantageous.

The Opportunity
An opportunity is available for a highly experienced Principal/Senior HVAC Engineer to support a major nuclear project. The assignment will be based in Stockton-on-Tees and hybrid working is available based around a working week of 40 hours. Rate will be dependent on experience due to the potential for candidates of different levels of seniority to apply.
The role will support the HVAC Capability team in all aspects of HVAC and Building Services, preferably with knowledge and experience in nuclear standards and processes, specifically the delivery of the design of HVAC Systems or modification to existing HVAC Systems.
Your duties and responsibilities:
- Ability to be client facing and demonstrate confidence as a subject matter expert, hence able to support all stakeholders.
- Role expectations are;
- Manage a small team of engineer/designers
- Design of Ventilation systems from basic principles and an understanding of containment philosophy
- Production of HVAC system design deliverables, specifying heat rejection plant (eg. air / water cooled condensers, heat pumps and heat recovery systems of varying types.
- The design of HVAC systems for cooling industrial process environments.
- Steam system design
- Production of system schematics / Engineering Flow Diagrams (EFDs).
- Preparation of psychrometric calculations
You will have the following qualifications & experience:
- • Degree in Building Services Engineering or minimum HND plus extensive experience in the industry.
- • Experience in the Use of industry standard software such as Hevacomp, Revit and Pipenet.
- • Awareness of EG_0_1738_1 - Ventilation of Radioactive Areas.
- • Demonstrable experience in a similar role/environment, with recent relevant exposure of work in a regulated industry.
- • An understanding of AutoCAD packages and its capabilities
It’s great if you also have the following:
- Thermal modelling experience would be an advantage.

The role will be mainly office based with trips to site if required. A safety induction will be provided.
