Summary: The Principal PHP Developer role focuses on leading technical delivery for an established eCommerce platform, primarily utilizing Magento and Laravel. This contract position requires hands-on coding and mentorship of a distributed development team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in PHP development and a strong background in eCommerce or SaaS environments. The role is hybrid, based in West Yorkshire, and offers a competitive daily rate.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Write and review high-quality PHP/Magento (and Laravel) code
  • Lead daily stand-ups, unblock devs, and drive team velocity
  • Review and mentor junior/mid-level developers
  • Coordinate with offshore teams
  • Oversee deployment processes across AWS, DigitalOcean, or Azure
  • Support performance tuning and DB optimisation (MySQL, MS SQL)

Key Skills:

  • Strong full-stack PHP experience with Magento
  • Experience with Laravel would be very beneficial
  • Background in high-volume eCommerce or SaaS environments
  • Confident leading agile workflows and code reviews
  • Comfortable working in fast-paced, production-critical setups

An established eCommerce business is seeking a Principal PHP Developer on a contract basis to take ownership of technical delivery across its platform. You'll be hands-on with Magento, while also guiding a distributed development team to deliver clean, scalable code.

Key Responsibilities

  • Write and review high-quality PHP/Magento (and Laravel) code
  • Lead daily stand-ups, unblock devs, and drive team velocity
  • Review and mentor junior/mid-level developers
  • Coordinate with offshore teams
