Summary: The Principal Mechanical Engineer role involves delivering engineering work packages for Silo Emptying Plant Machines within a major Engineering & Services client in Warrington. The position requires expertise in mechanical handling and lifting, particularly within the Nuclear industry, and offers hybrid working arrangements for a long-term project. The engineer will be responsible for managing design activities, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards, and providing technical guidance throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Originate and review engineering documentation
  • Support project optioneering process
  • Review and accept project drawings and documentation
  • Attend design review and project meetings
  • Attend hazard identification workshops, optioneering reviews and stakeholder meetings
  • Manage detailed design activities following project standards
  • Technical assessment and approval of contractors' work instructions/method statements/risk assessments
  • Provide technical guidance of construction and/or deconstruction activities to ensure compliance with design intent
  • Specify and provide technical supervision of commissioning and/or decommissioning
  • Consult with stakeholders to ensure efficient and effective project delivery
  • Comply with Environment, Health, Safety, Security and Quality policies and procedures

Key Skills:

  • Mechanical Handling and lifting operation experience
  • Previous experience within the Nuclear industry
  • Ability to review, understand and challenge conventional engineering calculations per BS 2573 or similar standards
  • Experienced in delivering fit-for-purpose mechanical design solutions to cost and schedule
  • Ability to break down a problem/issue into constituent parts and present options for resolution
  • Able to contribute to the production of, deliver to, and report on plans of work
  • Able to communicate both verbally and in writing with a variety of stakeholders
  • Working knowledge and understanding of regulations relevant to the delivery of machinery (SOMSR 2008, CDM, PUWER, LOLER etc.)
  • Familiar with engineering drawings (including checking) and standards relevant to their production e.g. BS 8888 & GPS
