A leading financial markets organisation is looking for an experienced Principal Java/Data Engineer to join a specialist technology team, working on a critical Risk Datastore capability supporting market data, product data and downstream risk calculations. This is a highly hands-on engineering role with a strong focus on data quality, traceability, auditability and building robust, scalable data platforms.
You will be responsible for designing and developing data-intensive services using Java and Spring Boot, working with market and historical data used across critical financial systems. A key focus will be ensuring strong accountability of data - understanding where data has originated, what market data has been used within calculations, what rules have been applied and ensuring outputs can be traced back to their underlying inputs.
The role requires someone with strong Java engineering and data-oriented experience, ideally within financial services and market data environments. You will work across an on-premise core platform while supporting the publishing of data into cloud-based environments and Snowflake. You may also interface with quantitative and analytics components developed in Python and C++.
What you'll need to succeed
- Strong hands-on Java development experience, ideally Java 11/17+ and Spring Boot
- Strong data engineering experience working with data-intensive platforms
- Experience working with market data and/or product data within financial services
- Strong understanding of data lineage, traceability, auditability and data controls
- Experience developing scalable, batch-oriented data processing solutions
- Experience with Snowflake and publishing data into cloud-based platforms such as AWS/S3
- Experience working across on-premise and cloud environments
