Summary: The role of Instrumentation & Control Engineer involves joining a multi-disciplinary engineering team to support key energy projects aligned with the UK's Net Zero goals. The engineer will ensure technical excellence in instrumentation and control design while adhering to national and international standards. This position offers a collaborative environment focused on innovative engineering solutions. The role primarily supports the Lead Engineer in project delivery and compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical input for projects and proposals, ensuring compliance with industry codes, regulations, and client standards.
  • Prepare, check, and approve engineering documentation for instrumentation and control systems.
  • Develop equipment and materials requisitions for control systems, safety systems, analyser houses, field instrumentation, and other related equipment.
  • Prepare installation scopes of work and review supplier quotations.
  • Conduct technical bid assessments and liaise with suppliers and vendors.
  • Full life-cycle development of control or protection systems.
  • Software qualification of SMART devices and PLCs.
  • Perform functional safety assessments and ensure compliance with safety integrity level (SIL) requirements.
  • Support C&I ageing and obsolescence management strategies.

Key Skills:

  • Proven experience in Instrumentation & Control Engineering, ideally within Energy, Oil & Gas, or Infrastructure projects.
  • Strong knowledge of control systems, safety systems, field instrumentation, and industry standards.
  • Experience preparing engineering documentation, equipment specifications, and installation scopes.
  • Understanding of Functional Safety, SMART device programming, and PLC systems.
  • Ability to review supplier quotations and conduct technical bid evaluations.
  • Experience working within a multi-disciplinary team, collaborating with engineers across various disciplines.
  • Familiarity with C&I ageing and obsolescence management.
  • Degree in Instrumentation & Control, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Chartered or working towards Chartered Engineer (CEng) status (preferred).
  • Knowledge of UK and international engineering codes, safety regulations, and industry best practices.
