Summary: The Principal DevOps Engineer will join the IT Platform Engineering team on an 18-month fixed-term contract, focusing on the Core Modernisation project. This role involves providing technical leadership in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and DevOps practices, mentoring team members, and ensuring compliance with IT controls. The position requires collaboration with various stakeholders to implement solutions and maintain operational processes effectively.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide technical leadership with a focus on Infrastructure as Code (IaC), DevOps Toolchains, and CI/CD pipelines delivering automation solutions for foundational infrastructure services
- Define and implement IaC related frameworks, guardrails, and controls ensuring solutions and processes are consistent, optimised, and comply with relevant IT controls, policies and standards of the Bank
- Mentor other staff to increase the knowledge across the Platform Engineering team
- Collaborate with others on solution principles, consumption patterns, and oversee solution implementation to a run steady-state
- Work with technologists and managers to meet delivery milestones, managing risk and providing technical quality assurance
- Be responsible for the maturity and implementation of Infrastructure as Code practices
- Identify and implement standard practices including unit testing, documentation, and release management in the IT infrastructure space
- Deliver solution documentation, operational assessments, and review technical documentation created by internal and external teams
- Present at meetings to peers and senior stakeholders to inform and educate on Platform Engineering subjects ensuring the content is appropriate for the audience
Key Skills:
- Must have experience in a technical leadership or principal role, preferably in Banking and Government
- Must have extensive experience designing, building, and managing Infrastructure as Code solutions using Azure DevOps Services, Terraform Cloud, and preferably Puppet Enterprise
- Experience mentoring people to build skills within a team
- Excellent technical documentation and communication skills with peers, vendors, and senior leadership
- Experience in developing and maintaining relationships with internal customers and stakeholders
- Experience with Agile methodologies
- Knowledge of DevOps, DevSecOps, automation, orchestration, and configuration management products
