Detailed Description From Employer:

We are seeking an enthusiastic Principal Clinical Scientist to join our friendly Clinical Biochemistry department. This is a newly created post to expand our clinical team and presents an exciting opportunity for a motivated candidate to develop expertise in their own areas of interest within the role, while contributing to the provision of a high quality clinical biochemistry service.

As an accredited HSST programme provider, we offer the opportunity to apply for an HSST position if the postholder is interested in pursuing this training route.

The Pathology services at Airedale are provided by Integrated Pathology Services (IPS), a joint venture between Airedale NHS Foundation Trust, Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Harrogate District NHS Foundation Trust. The postholder will be employed by Airedale NHS Foundation Trust and based at Airedale General Hospital providing a clinical biochemistry service for the hospital as well as GPs and some non-NHS care providers.

Although each IPS Trust employs their own clinical biochemists to provide clinical oversight of their hospital service, we also work together as a single team to review and improve the quality of service across all IPS labs. This is facilitated by a shared managed service contact and LIMS, and is led by IPS Clinical and Medical Directors. All IPS laboratories are also part of the wider West Yorkshire and Harrogate Pathology Network which includes all 6 Trusts within the West Yorkshire Association of Acute Trusts (WYAAT).

The Clinical Biochemistry laboratory is well-equipped with Beckman-Coulter chemistry analysers, Sebia electrophoresis, Tosoh HbA1c, and Werfen immunology instrumentation. We have recently completed a refresh of equipment and have expanded our repertoire of tests performed on-site. As part of the New Hospital programme, we are currently planning a new lab which will enable us to embrace current and future advances in technology and innovations in the delivery of pathology services.

Airedale General Hospital is set in a beautiful location within the Yorkshire dales and has good transport links to the surrounding areas including Leeds and Bradford, providing many options for commuting and leisure activities. Airedale is an award-winning Trust, providing high quality, personalised, acute, elective, specialist and community care for a population of over 200,000 people across West and North Yorkshire and East Lancashire.

This is an exciting role for anyone who enjoys working in partnership with clinical and operational colleagues to drive quality improvement for patient outcomes. In addition, there are collaborative research opportunities both within IPS, and the wider WYAAT network.

We recognise that the way we can work has changed and all requests for flexible working will be seriously considered.
