Summary: The Principal Building Decarbonisation Project Officer will assist the Low Carbon Energy Projects Manager in delivering the Public Sector Decarbonisation Skills Fund by managing the development of low carbon energy projects for the public estate. This role involves supporting local authorities and organizations in decarbonising their buildings and enabling investment in strategic infrastructure. The position is hybrid and offers a competitive salary with various benefits. The ideal candidate should have experience in the energy sector and a relevant postgraduate degree.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist and support the Low Carbon Energy Projects Manager in delivering the Public Sector Decarbonisation Skills Fund.
- Manage the development of low carbon energy projects for the public estate.
- Support public sector and local authorities in developing plans to decarbonise their buildings.
- Enable investment in strategic infrastructure including renewable generation, heat networks, and energy efficiency.
- Carry out energy project assessments and manage specific energy efficiency and smart control projects.
- Support organizations in understanding energy efficiency opportunities and challenges.
- Manage energy projects through to completion and ensure funding conditions are met.
- Prepare submissions and bid for funding and finance.
- Build relationships across the Midlands as part of the Midlands Net Zero Hub team.
Key Skills:
- Experience within the energy sector (e.g., Building services, Mechanical Engineer, Sustainability Advisor).
- Postgraduate degree in HVAC, photovoltaic/battery design, or heat transfer is preferred.
- Ability to carry out energy project assessments and manage project development.
- Strong understanding of energy efficiency and smart control.
- Excellent communication skills, including fluency in English.
- Experience in managing energy projects and preparing funding submissions.
- Ability to build relationships and work collaboratively with various stakeholders.

About The Role The Principal Building Decarbonisation Project Officer will support the public sector and local authorities, industry and energy networks to develop plans to decarbonise their buildings. They will enable investment in strategic infrastructure including renewable generation, heat networks, heat pumps, smart controls, energy efficiency, green gas and hydrogen.
About You The ideal candidate will have: Experience within the energy sector (i.e. Building services or Engineer / Mechanical Engineer / Sustainability Advisor / Energy Manager). We would strongly encourage candidates with a Postgraduate degree in topics related to HVAC, photovoltaic/battery design and heat transfer. Be able to carry out energy project assessments and manage the development of specific energy efficiency and smart control projects including site surveys and the development of robust project business cases. Support organisations to understand the opportunities and challenges associated with energy efficiency and smart control and inform policy and strategy making across business, housing, transport and energy networks Manage energy projects through to completion and ensure conditions of associated funds are met. Support organisations to prepare submissions and bid for funding and finance. Form a key part of the Midlands Net Zero Hub team with responsibility for building relationships across the Midlands.
