Summary: The Primary Engineer role at WSP involves working within the UK Energy business to deliver power transmission infrastructure aimed at achieving Net Zero. The position requires collaboration within a multidisciplinary team to design substations and tackle complex engineering challenges. Candidates will be responsible for producing design drawings, technical specifications, and ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Produce design drawings for Grid and Primary substations.
- Prepare technical specifications for electrical plant and associated designs for substation upgrades and new projects from 132kV to 400kV.
- Produce feasibility reports, cost estimates, layouts, and plant specifications.
- Review designs for technical compliance with legislation and policies.
- Ensure designs meet contract specifications and client satisfaction.
- Undertake the role of CDM Designer and/or Principal Designer for HV and EHV projects.
- Identify and manage health and safety risks and hazards.
- Attend site meetings to support design or requirement changes during project build.
Key Skills:
- Minimum HNC/HND in Electrical Engineering.
- Experience with small, medium, and complex substation projects.
- Proven experience in HV and EHV substation design (AIS & GIS) from 132kV to 400kV.
- Knowledge of engineering standards and technical policies for HV and EHV plants.
- Exposure to substation cable design and protection and control.
- Understanding of H&S and CDM requirements.
- Preferable: Attained/working towards chartered engineer status.
- Preferable: National Grid BP141 HV Plant Authorisation.
