Summary: The Primary Engineer role at WSP involves working within the UK Energy business to deliver power transmission infrastructure aimed at achieving Net Zero. The position requires collaboration within a multidisciplinary team to design substations and tackle complex engineering challenges. Key Responsibilities:

• Produce design drawings for Grid and Primary substations.
• Prepare technical specifications for electrical plant and associated designs for substation upgrades and new projects from 132kV to 400kV.
• Produce feasibility reports, cost estimates, layouts, and plant specifications.
• Review designs for technical compliance with legislation and policies.
• Ensure designs meet contract specifications and client satisfaction.
• Undertake the role of CDM Designer and/or Principal Designer for HV and EHV projects.
• Identify and manage health and safety risks and hazards.
• Attend site meetings to support design or requirement changes during project build.

Key Skills:

• Minimum HNC/HND in Electrical Engineering.
• Experience with small, medium, and complex substation projects.
• Proven experience in HV and EHV substation design (AIS & GIS) from 132kV to 400kV.
• Knowledge of engineering standards and technical policies for HV and EHV plants.
• Exposure to substation cable design and protection and control.
• Understanding of H&S and CDM requirements.
• Preferable: Attained/working towards chartered engineer status.
• Preferable: National Grid BP141 HV Plant Authorisation.
