Summary: The Primary Engineer role at WSP involves working within the UK Energy business to design power transmission infrastructure aimed at achieving Net Zero. The position requires collaboration within a multidisciplinary team to deliver innovative projects, while also focusing on professional development and impactful leadership. The role emphasizes the importance of diversity and inclusion, as well as the use of state-of-the-art resources in engineering design. Candidates will be responsible for producing design drawings, technical specifications, and ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Produce design drawings for Grid and Primary substations.
- Prepare technical specifications for electrical plant and associated designs for substation upgrades and new projects from 132kV to 400kV.
- Generate feasibility reports, cost estimates, layouts, and plant specifications.
- Review designs from suppliers and clients for technical compliance.
- Ensure designs meet contract specifications and client satisfaction.
- Act as CDM Designer and/or Principal Designer for HV and EHV projects.
- Identify and manage health and safety risks and hazards.
- Attend site meetings to support design or requirement changes during project build.
Key Skills:
- Minimum HNC/HND in Electrical Engineering.
- Experience in small, medium, and complex substation projects.
- Proven experience in HV and EHV substation design (AIS & GIS) from 132kV to 400kV.
- Knowledge of engineering standards and technical policies for HV and EHV plants.
- Exposure to substation cable design and protection and control.
- Understanding of H&S and CDM requirements.
- Preferable: Attained or working towards chartered engineer status.
- Preferable: National Grid BP141 HV Plant Authorisation.
