About Our Power Platform Contract Roles in Leeds
What does a power platform contractor do?
Power Platform contractors are engaged to design, build, and maintain solutions using Microsoft's low-code and automation platform, which encompasses Power Apps for custom application development, Power Automate for workflow and process automation, Power BI for analytics and reporting, and Power Virtual Agents for chatbot development. Power Platform contracting has grown significantly as Microsoft has positioned the suite as the productivity and automation layer of the Microsoft 365 and Azure ecosystems, enabling organisations to build custom applications and automated workflows without the overhead of full custom software development. Contract engagements arise when organisations are building specific Power Apps or automation solutions, when a Power Platform Centre of Excellence is being established, or when governance and development standards need to be applied to a sprawling landscape of citizen-developer built solutions.
Power Platform contractors are expected to have practical experience building production-grade solutions across the relevant components of the suite rather than shallow familiarity with all four products. Power Apps contractors need experience building Canvas Apps and Model-Driven Apps, including proficiency in Power Fx formula language for Canvas Apps, Dataverse data modelling for Model-Driven Apps, and the integration of Power Apps with SharePoint, Dynamics 365, and external APIs via connectors and custom connectors. Power Automate contractors need expertise designing complex multi-step automated flows, including exception handling, approval workflows, and integration with Azure services. For enterprise roles, experience with Power Platform governance tools including the Centre of Excellence Starter Kit, environment management, Data Loss Prevention policies, and solution-based deployment practices using managed solutions is expected.
What is the market like for power platform contractors?
Power Platform contracting is a rapidly growing and active market within the Microsoft ecosystem, driven by the accelerating adoption of low-code development across UK organisations seeking to digitise manual processes and build custom operational applications without the cost and lead time of traditional software development. Microsoft's heavy investment in the Power Platform as the automation and application layer of its cloud ecosystem has created a growing and increasingly sophisticated contractor market. The most valuable Power Platform contractors are those who combine deep Power Platform technical skills with strong solution architecture ability and governance experience, enabling them to move beyond simple automation tasks into building complex, enterprise-grade solutions. Rates reflect this technical and architectural depth and sit above the market for general low-code development.
What is the contracting market like in Leeds?
One of the largest financial and legal centres outside London, Leeds generates sustained contractor demand from high street banks, building societies, insurance groups, and national law firms with significant presences in the city. Legal technology, regulatory change, and compliance contracting benefit from this dual concentration in a way few other regional cities can offer. The NHS and broader public sector add volume across programme delivery, clinical systems, and business analysis. Around the South Bank area, a growing pool of technology firms is gradually broadening the types of roles available beyond the traditional finance and professional services core. For contractors seeking a lower cost base without a significant reduction in opportunity, Leeds is one of the most credible alternatives to London in the north of England.
How much do power platform contractors usually earn in Leeds?
Contract rates for power platform roles in Leeds typically range from £400 to £750 per day, depending on the scope of the role, required expertise, and the delivery expectations of the engagement.
