Summary: The Power BI Developer role focuses on enhancing performance reporting for a Local Authority's SEND service and Delivering Better Value programme. The position involves developing dashboards and reporting solutions in Power BI to provide insights for senior leaders and service managers. Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and build interactive Power BI dashboards and reports
  • Translate performance and reporting needs into clear technical solutions
  • Connect and integrate data from multiple sources (Capita, SQL Server, Excel, SharePoint, APIs)
  • Build efficient, scalable data models (e.g. star schema)
  • Define and embed KPIs in collaboration with the Data Group, SEND Business Analyst, and Head of Service
  • Schedule data refreshes and manage gateway configurations
  • Ensure consistency, accuracy, and security of data across reports
  • Document data sources, transformation logic, and report structures
  • Support and train end-users in using Power BI reports
  • Work with the data and IT teams to improve data pipelines and infrastructure

Key Skills:

  • Significant experience developing dashboards and reports using Power BI
  • Strong SQL skills and experience with relational data sources
  • Proven ability to model data for performance and scalability
  • Strong organisational and communication skills
  • Experience working within a Local Government environment
  • Knowledge of SEND services, education data or children’s social care reporting
  • Degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, or similar
  • Microsoft Power BI certification

Power BI Developer – Local Government / SEND (Contract)

£500/day | Outside IR35 | 3-6 months | Mostly remote | 35 hours/week

Salt is working with a North West-based Local Authority to recruit an experienced Power BI Developer to support performance reporting across their SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) service and Delivering Better Value (DMP) programme.

This role sits within a high-priority transformation programme aimed at improving outcomes for children and young people with SEND. You’ll be developing dashboards and reporting solutions in Power BI that give senior leaders and service managers the insight they need to manage performance and track delivery against key metrics.

Experience working with SEND, Education or Children’s Services data in Local Government is highly desirable.
