Summary: The role of Political Adviser (SEO) for the FCDO involves engaging with Afghan political networks to support UK development and political priorities. The adviser will provide analysis, advice, and support for public diplomacy efforts while also offering translation services as needed. This position is hybrid and requires established connections within the Afghan political landscape. The contract is for 12 months and falls inside IR35 regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Engage and develop networks across the Afghan political spectrum in support of UK ODA and political priorities.
• Support UK engagement and outreach to key Afghan interlocutors for Track II/1.5 initiatives.
• Provide advice to UK officials on the development of Afghanistan ODA programmes for FY2025-6.
• Produce and input to analysis and political reporting on Afghan politics.
• Support public diplomacy efforts on social media and traditional media.
• Provide ad hoc translation services to the department when needed.

Key Skills:

• Established networks with Afghan political leaders, activists, and within the NGO community.
• Fluent in English, Dari, and Pashtu.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
