Role: PMO Lead
Location: Hybrid, 2 days onsite in East London
Contract: Initial 3 months
Rate: up to £550 per day
The Opportunity
A London local authority is strengthening its programme governance and reporting arrangements as it delivers a major portfolio of service modernisation and transformation projects.
We are looking for experienced PMO Analysts / Leads to work directly within individual council directorates, providing visibility, challenge and assurance across their project portfolios.
These are embedded, business-facing PMO positions rather than purely central reporting roles.
The Role
Work closely with directorate leadership teams to understand their key projects, priorities, delivery risks and dependencies.
Establish and maintain effective reporting arrangements across the directorate’s transformation portfolio.
Review and challenge project information, testing the accuracy of reported progress against actual delivery.
Identify inconsistencies, emerging risks, delivery concerns and dependencies between projects.
Develop reporting mechanisms, dashboards and governance information to support informed decision-making.
Act as a link between the directorate and the central enterprise PMO, ensuring consistent reporting and escalation.
Provide analysis, insight and recommendations to senior stakeholders, rather than simply consolidating project updates.
Report into the Head of PMO while working closely with operational and transformation leaders.
The Person
Strong experience in an embedded PMO, portfolio analysis or PMO business partnering position.
Must have worked directly alongside operational functions or directorates, rather than exclusively within a central PMO.
Experience challenging project delivery information and providing meaningful analysis to senior management.
Strong understanding of programme governance, portfolio reporting, risks and dependencies.
Experience within local government, Civil Service or wider public sector transformation would be particularly relevant.
Confident working independently, building relationships and constructively challenging senior stakeholders.
