Key responsibilities
- Taking hands-on ownership of delivery activity across multiple workstreams and priorities
- Working closely with technology teams and senior stakeholders to understand progress and delivery challenges
- Driving actions through to completion and following up where activity is at risk
- Questioning and constructively challenging teams to understand underlying issues rather than simply accepting status updates
- Managing risks, issues, dependencies, plans and governance activities
- Conducting deeper dives into problem areas and helping drive practical resolutions
- Producing concise executive summaries, reporting and management information
- Supporting planning, financial and resource activities where required
- Managing multiple workstreams and competing stakeholder priorities
- Picking up both complex and more routine PMO/delivery activities as required
Key Requirements
- Experience working within PMO, Project Management, Delivery Management or a similar change environment
- A good understanding of PMO governance, RAID, planning and delivery controls
- Hands-on experience supporting or managing delivery across multiple workstreams
- Strong stakeholder management skills and confidence dealing with senior stakeholders
- Comfortable questioning and challenging teams and getting into the detail where delivery isn't progressing as expected
- Strong analytical skills and good Excel capability
- Ability to produce clear and concise reporting and executive-level updates
- Strong communication and presentation skills
- Able to manage multiple priorities and deliver at pace
- Proactive, pragmatic and willing to get involved in whatever needs doing
Background required
We are particularly interested in candidates who have a combination of PMO and practical project/delivery experience, rather than someone who has operated solely within a traditional reporting-focused PMO.
This could suit someone who has progressed through PMO/project coordination into a Project Manager, Delivery Manager or PMO Lead position and is looking to broaden their delivery responsibility, with the opportunity to develop towards larger Project or Programme Management roles over time.
The hiring manager is particularly interested in people with a strong work ethic who are hands-on, hungry to develop and happy to roll their sleeves up.
The role provides exposure to senior technology stakeholders and complex change, but there will also be routine day-to-day activity, so it's important that you're comfortable picking up whatever is required to keep delivery moving.
Previous banking/financial services experience is preferred, and experience within technology change would be particularly relevant.
Financial planning experience, including forecasting, variances or project accounting, would be beneficial but isn't essential.
Location & Contract
The role is based in Sheffield and requires 3 days per week onsite.
This will be an initial contract with strong potential for longer-term extension.
Interview process
The interview process will take place largely on-site in Sheffield and is expected to include a short case study/presentation, Excel exercise and one-to-one interview.
