Senior Platform Engineer – Common Platform
6-Month Initial Contract | Outside IR35 | London
I’m currently recruiting for a Senior Platform Engineer to join the Core Platform team of a leading UK media and entertainment organisation.
The team is responsible for developing and evolving an internal Common Platform, providing the tooling, infrastructure and engineering patterns that enable software development teams across the organisation.
This is a hands-on Platform Engineering role combining AWS, Kubernetes/EKS, Terraform, automation, CI/CD and internal developer tooling.
You’ll work as part of the Core Platform team, designing, developing and supporting the platform capabilities used by engineering teams across the organisation.
Responsibilities
- Designing and developing reusable Infrastructure as Code modules using Terraform
- Building and operating production AWS EKS/Kubernetes environments
- Developing internal platform tools, frameworks and automation
- Using Python, Go or similar languages to develop automation and platform tooling
- Designing and implementing AWS-native infrastructure and services
- Building and maintaining standard CI/CD pipelines and workflows
- Supporting observability and monitoring capabilities across the platform
- Managing Kubernetes upgrades and platform improvements
- Supporting production incidents and resolving complex infrastructure issues
- Reviewing and approving infrastructure and code changes through pull requests
- Designing infrastructure for new applications and improving existing environments
- Working closely with Embedded Platform Engineers and Software Engineers
- Providing technical guidance, coaching and sharing platform best practice
- Helping drive the adoption of new platform capabilities across engineering teams
Essential Experience
- We’re looking for a genuine Platform Engineer with experience across:
- Building internal platform tools, frameworks or developer platforms
- Strong programming/automation experience using Python, Go or similar
- Advanced Terraform / Infrastructure as Code, including reusable modules and patterns
- Building and operating production EKS clusters
- Strong Kubernetes experience beyond simply deploying workloads
- Deep understanding of AWS-native architecture and service integration
- CI/CD technologies and modern software delivery practices
- Production infrastructure support and incident resolution
- Cloud security and designing secure, scalable infrastructure
Desirable Experience
- Experience within larger enterprise environments would be highly beneficial, particularly:
- AWS Organizations and multi-account strategies
- Cross-account access
- IAM and VPC design
- Enterprise security and governance
- Compliance frameworks and organisational policies
- Implementing platform changes across distributed teams
- Cloud cost optimisation
- Helm and Kubernetes management tooling
- Observability and monitoring
Personal Attributes
You’ll be someone who enjoys building platforms and solving engineering problems rather than simply maintaining existing infrastructure.
Strong communication and collaboration skills are important, as you'll work across multiple engineering teams and help developers adopt new platform capabilities.
