The Opportunity

Our client is looking to strengthen its project delivery team with the appointment of an experienced Contract Planning / Programme Manager to support a growing portfolio of secured works across the SSEN framework.

This role will focus on the planning, programming and delivery of Overhead Line (OHL) projects across LV, 11kV and 33kV networks. Whilst previous SSEN experience would be advantageous, the client is primarily seeking individuals with strong OHL planning and programme management experience within regional electricity network projects.

The position is based in Reading and will play a key role in supporting project teams to deliver works safely, efficiently and in line with programme objectives over the next 12-18 months.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain and manage detailed project programmes across multiple OHL schemes.
  • Monitor project progress and provide regular updates to key stakeholders.
  • Identify programme risks, constraints and opportunities, implementing mitigation measures where required.
  • Work closely with operational, engineering, commercial and client teams to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Coordinate programme activities across design, procurement, construction and commissioning phases.
  • Produce programme reporting, resource forecasts and critical path analysis.
  • Support delivery teams in achieving project milestones and contractual obligations.
  • Drive programme improvement and ensure planning best practice is followed throughout the project lifecycle.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Planner, Senior Planner, Planning Manager or Programme Manager within the utilities sector.
  • Strong background in Overhead Lines (OHL) projects is preferred.
  • Candidates with a cabling background may be considered if they possess relevant electricity network experience.
  • Experience delivering projects within regional electricity networks.
  • Engineering-led planning and programming background.
  • Strong understanding of project controls, scheduling and programme management principles.
  • Proficient in Primavera P6 and/or Microsoft Project.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.

Desirable

  • Previous experience working on SSEN projects or frameworks.
  • Knowledge of LV, 11kV and 33kV networks.
  • Experience managing multiple concurrent projects within a framework environment.

This is an excellent contract opportunity for a planning professional with a strong electricity networks background to join a well-established delivery team supporting a significant programme of OHL works across the SSEN framework.

Genuine OHL experience is the key requirement, with cabling experience considered where supported by relevant distribution network expertise.
