Summary: The Senior Planning Lawyer role at a London Local Authority involves providing high-level legal advice and managing a team within the legal services department. This locum contract offers the opportunity to work on complex planning matters and engage with various stakeholders while supporting the Principal Lawyer. The position is hybrid, allowing for flexibility, and is expected to be extended beyond the initial three-month term. Candidates should be experienced and capable of working autonomously with minimal supervision.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the Principal Lawyer and Legal Services management in providing strategic legal advice to Councils, Members, and Officers.
- Lead and manage a team in a shared back-office support service, delivering high-quality legal work across multiple disciplines.
- Handle a caseload of complex matters including s106 agreements, planning, and highways advice, with minimal supervision.
- Assist the Principal Lawyer in achieving the strategic aims of the Legal Services department.
- Build positive relationships with customers and assist in developing innovative legal solutions.
- Support income generation and identify savings for the Legal Services department.

- Extensive experience as a Planning Lawyer.
