Piping Estimator - Process Pipework

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed estimates and quotations for hygienic process pipework installations, upgrades and modifications.
  • Review tender packs, P&IDs, pipework layouts, isometrics, specifications and site survey information.
  • Carry out material take-offs for 316L stainless steel hygienic tube, fittings, valves, supports, pumps, clamps, gaskets and fabricated spools.
  • Estimate labour for fabrication, orbital/TIG welding, installation, testing, commissioning, access, supervision and shutdown works.
  • Price pipework typically ranging from ½ inch to 6 inch nominal bore, including product-contact lines, CIP circuits and utility services.
  • Obtain supplier and subcontractor quotations, compare costs, identify exclusions, assumptions, risks and value-engineering opportunities.

Pipework and Products

  • Estimate hygienic stainless steel pipework from ½ inch to 6 inch nominal bore, covering dosing lines, product transfer, process headers, CIP circuits and utility services.
  • Typical products include milk, cream, yoghurt, sauces, fruit preparations, liquid egg, batter mixes, brine, edible oils, sugar syrup, chocolate feed, yeast slurry and liquid ingredients.
  • Associated services include CIP supply/return, potable and hot water, steam, condensate, glycol cooling, compressed air, instrument air and chemical dosing pipework.

Required Experience and Skills

  • Experience estimating process pipework, hygienic pipework, food and beverage, dairy, brewing, pharmaceutical or similar mechanical projects.
  • Good knowledge of 316L stainless steel tube, hygienic fittings, tri-clamp connections, orbital welding, fabricated spools, valve sets and pipe supports.
  • Ability to read P&IDs, isometrics, layouts, fabrication drawings, specifications and scope documents.
  • Strong commercial awareness with the ability to build cost estimates covering materials, labour, subcontractors, plant, access, testing, commissioning and contingency.
  • Awareness of hygienic design principles, GMP, HACCP, cleanability, drainability and CIP requirements within food manufacturing environments.
