Summary: The role involves hiring a Performance Tester and a Performance Testing Lead for a client in the utilities and billing systems sector, based in Reading. The position is hybrid, allowing remote work with two days in the office each week, and is a temporary contract lasting six months. The focus is on ensuring the stability and performance of critical billing systems during peak loads and transformations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure business-critical billing systems remain stable under peak loads by validating scalability, throughput, and response times using real-world workload modelling, preventing revenue-impacting failures.
- Proactively identify and resolve performance bottlenecks through deep analysis using tools like Dynatrace/AppDynamics and deliver actionable tuning recommendations that improve system efficiency and reliability.
- Support complex, high-volume, multi-system environments (including dual run scenarios) by designing and executing robust performance test strategies that ensure seamless integration and uninterrupted billing operations.
- Analyse performance testing requirements including user load, throughput, transaction volumes, and usage patterns.
- Prepare Performance Test Strategy and Test Plan aligned to program milestones.
- Design and develop performance test scripts using JMeter and/or LoadRunner.
- Execute load, stress, endurance, and volume testing.
- Monitor application performance using tools such as Dynatrace, AppDynamics, or Azure Monitor.
- Analyse results and identify bottlenecks and system limitations.
- Prepare performance reports and tuning recommendations.
- Manage performance defects through to resolution.
- Support dual run validation ensuring stable billing operations.
- Validate high-volume transactions across multiple integrated systems.
- Own and drive performance testing strategy and roadmap, aligned to critical program milestones.
- Lead end-to-end performance engineering, from workload modelling and test design to execution and reporting.
- Shape systems for real-world scale, designing and executing load, stress, endurance, and volume tests.
- Build and lead high-performing teams, mentoring talent across geographies and driving delivery excellence.
- Partner with stakeholders, defining SLAs, NFRs, and acceptance criteria that ensure business confidence.
- Create realistic performance scenarios, validating complex billing, meter data, and system integrations.
- Gain deep system insights, monitoring performance and identifying bottlenecks through advanced tools and analysis.
- Solve critical performance challenges, leading root cause analysis and collaborating on system tuning.
- Embed performance in modern delivery, integrating testing into CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
- Ensure go-live confidence, supporting dual-run validation and delivering robust performance sign-offs with zero compromise.
Key Skills:
- 5-10 years of experience in Performance Testing/Non-functional Testing.
- Strong experience with JMeter, LoadRunner, or NeoLoad.
- Understanding of workload modelling and performance engineering concepts.
- Experience in Agile/DevOps environments.
- Experience in utilities or billing systems is highly desirable.
- 12+ years of experience in Performance Testing and Engineering.
- Experience as Performance Test Lead in large transformation programs.
- Utilities, billing, or CIS experience preferred.
- Proven experience in managing teams and stakeholder engagement.

Our client, a leading global supplier for IT services, requires an experienced Performance Tester and a Performance Testing Lead to be based at their client's office in Reading.
This is a hybrid role - you can work remotely in the UK and attend the Reading office 2 days per week.

1/Performance Tester:
An experienced Performance Tester to support the client's Keystone transformation program, focusing on non-functional validation of billing systems, integrations, and dual run operations. The role involves validating system scalability, response time, throughput, and stability under real-world and peak load conditions to ensure business-critical billing processes operate without performance degradation.
