Key Responsibilities:

  • Understand the need for sound people analytics and insight to enable HMRC to shape its future through evidence-based decision-making.
  • Interpret stakeholder needs and identify appropriate research questions.
  • Design analytical projects to best answer research questions, ensuring alignment with strategic vision.
  • Develop logical project delivery plans, utilizing resources efficiently while factoring in risks and dependencies.
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively with senior stakeholders to meet user needs and manage expectations.
  • Set priorities, objectives, and timescales for project work, communicating these with key stakeholders.
  • Lead a team of analysts to deliver impactful analysis, ensuring outputs meet quality standards.
  • Communicate data findings and insights to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Support and mentor the team to deliver projects and develop their analytical skills.
  • Manage line responsibilities for data analysts.

Key Skills:

  • Knowledge of a range of data science techniques and ability to select appropriate techniques for research questions.
  • Experience in manipulating large datasets, basic statistics, and complex statistical methods.
  • Demonstrated track record in delivering analysis using statistical software packages such as R studio or SAS.
  • Experience in scoping, planning, and delivering impactful analytical projects.
  • Ability to synthesize information from multiple sources to answer research questions.
  • Knowledge of data storytelling principles to develop engaging narratives for influencing decision-making.
  • Undergraduate degree (minimum of 2:2) in a relevant field or at least 3 years of experience in an analytical/data science role.
  • Experience in line management or coaching less experienced analysts.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills.
  • Experience using BI platforms such as PowerBI or Tableau.
