Pensions Investment and Governance Officer

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Surrey Pension Team and play a key role in supporting the governance and investment activities of one of the largest funds in the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS).

The Fund manages assets of over £7 billion on behalf of more than 130,000 members and approximately 500 employers.

As a Pensions Investment & Governance Officer, you will support the delivery of a wide range of investment and governance activities that help ensure the Fund operates effectively, efficiently and in line with regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting Pension Fund Committee and Local Pension Board reporting and meetings.
  • Maintaining records, policies, registers and action logs.
  • Coordinating governance, assurance and compliance activities.
  • Supporting the administration and monitoring of the Fund's private investment portfolio.
  • Gathering, analysing and presenting data to support decision making.
  • Assisting with the preparation of the Fund's Annual Report and other key publications.
  • Supporting projects and business improvement initiatives across the Investment and Governance function.
  • Working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to enhance processes and service delivery.

Experience of maintaining policies, procedures, action logs and supporting governance processes.

Strong IT skills, particularly Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.

Ability to build positive working relationships with a range of stakeholders.

A keen interest in investment, governance, committee administration, risk management, investment governance and public sector finance.

Ability to work independently while contributing effectively as part of a team.

Local Government Reorganisation (LGR)

Surrey County Council is undergoing Local Government Reorganisation and will move to new authorities in April 2027.

This role is currently employed by Surrey County Council and will remain so until then.

If you are employed by Surrey County Council on 1 April 2027, your employment will transfer under TUPE arrangements to one of the new councils, with your current terms and conditions protected.
