Key Responsibilities:
- Preparation and processing of three UK monthly payrolls, including documentation input and validation.
- Provide technical payroll-related advice and support to staff and managers.
- Ensure compliance with GDPR, HMRC, and other regulatory requirements.
- Complete month-end and year-end reconciliations and reporting.
- Administer LSTM’s pension arrangements and support staff through the pension lifecycle.
- Produce payroll documentation such as P45s and P60s.
- Calculate maternity, paternity, and shared parental leave in line with policy.
- Maintain payroll records within iTrent, ensuring data quality and accuracy.
- Collaborate with HR colleagues to provide seamless service and achieve departmental goals.

About The Role
At LSTM, our People Services team plays a key role supporting colleagues across a world leading global health organisation. We are looking for a Payroll Officer to join our team on a fixed-term maternity cover contract from 1st September until July 2027. In this role, you will delivering a professional, efficient and responsive payroll service, ensuring employees are paid accurately and on time while maintaining compliance with government legislation and LSTM policies and procedures. Working across the full payroll cycle, you will provide expert payroll advice, process monthly payrolls, administer pension schemes, complete statutory reporting, and support continuous improvement of payroll processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Preparation and processing of three UK monthly payrolls including interpreting, validating and the inputting of all documentation, expenses, timesheets, and overtime payments on iTrent in line with SLA's
- Provide technical/complex payroll related advice, guidance and support to all staff and managers
- Ensure compliance with GDPR regulations, HMRC, Pension and other external regulatory requirements, including reconciling statutory deductions and payments to HMRC employer portal
- Complete month end and year end reconciliations and reporting requirements
- Administer LSTM’s pension arrangements including USS, NHS, ULPF and support staff through the pension Lifecyle
- Produce payroll documentation including P45’s, P60’s and payroll related correspondence
- Calculate maternity, paternity and shared parental leave calculations in line with policy
- Maintain payroll records within iTrent, ensuring data quality and accuracy
- Work collaboratively and productively with colleagues across HR to provide a seamless service to all customers and contribute to the achievement of departmental goals
Ideal Candidate
We're looking for someone with experience working in a payroll position and:
- Working knowledge of Payroll Statutory and Legal requirements
- Working knowledge and understanding of pension schemes and reconciliation
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills with strong Excel experience
- Demonstrable experience of HR & Payroll Systems
- Ability to communicate complex payroll and finance information
- Confident communicator with excellent interpersonal skills able to establish rapport with people at all levels and strong customer mindset
- Ability to take ownership of tasks and use initiative and work effectively under pressure and to strict deadlines
It would be desirable if you also have knowledge of NHS pay and pensions, experience of international payrolls, experience using iTrent, or a professional payroll qualification (CIPP or equivalent) or equivalent work experience.
