Payroll Manager

The Role

As Payroll Manager, you will have end-to-end responsibility for multiple payrolls, working closely with Finance, HR, Operations and site management to ensure payroll is delivered accurately and efficiently.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Managing the end-to-end processing of multiple monthly payrolls across a multi-site organisation.
  • Ensuring all payrolls are processed accurately, on time and in accordance with statutory and company requirements.
  • Managing payroll inputs including starters, leavers, changes to pay, overtime, bonuses, deductions, benefits and absence.
  • Reviewing and approving payroll calculations, reconciliations and reports.
  • Ensuring accurate processing of PAYE, National Insurance, pensions, statutory payments and other payroll-related obligations.
  • Managing payroll year-end processes, including P11Ds, P60s and associated reporting.
  • Acting as the key point of contact for payroll queries from employees, managers, HR and Finance.
  • Working closely with HR to maintain accurate employee data and ensure changes are reflected correctly in payroll.
  • Producing payroll reports and reconciliations for the Finance team.
  • Maintaining strong payroll controls and ensuring appropriate audit trails are in place.
  • Managing relationships with external providers where applicable.
  • Providing payroll insight and support to the wider Finance and People teams.

About You

We are looking for a technically strong payroll professional who is comfortable operating in a fast-paced, commercially focused and evolving business environment.

You will ideally have:

Significant experience managing multiple payrolls, preferably across a multi-site or complex organisation.

Strong technical knowledge of UK payroll legislation, PAYE, National Insurance.

Experience managing the full payroll lifecycle from input through to reporting and payment.

Excellent attention to detail and a strong focus on accuracy.

Experience working with payroll systems.

Strong reconciliation and analytical skills.

The confidence to challenge discrepancies and resolve issues proactively.

Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with stakeholders at all levels.

The ability to manage competing priorities and tight payroll deadlines.
