The Role

As Payroll Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the delivery of a comprehensive payroll service, ensuring employees are paid accurately, on time and in line with current legislation and organisational policies.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing an effective payroll service and delivering excellent levels of customer service.
  • Dealing professionally and confidentially with a wide range of payroll queries from employees, managers and key stakeholders.
  • Managing monthly payroll runs, ensuring robust checking processes are in place to maintain accuracy and minimise errors.
  • Undertaking detailed payroll calculations and reconciliations.
  • Completing statutory payroll returns and submissions to HMRC.
  • Processing statutory payments, including SSP, SMP, SPP and other family-related leave payments.
  • Administering salary sacrifice schemes, including childcare vouchers, cycle-to-work schemes and season ticket loans.
  • Managing employee advances, including hardship, holiday and seasonal advances.
  • Ensuring payroll terms and conditions are applied correctly, including overtime, shift allowances and recruitment and retention payments.
  • Processing travel and subsistence claims.
  • Managing third-party payments and deductions.
  • Keeping up to date with payroll legislation and employment law changes, ensuring compliance and implementing any required updates.

About You

  • The successful candidate will have:
  • Previous experience in a Payroll Manager or senior payroll position.
  • Strong knowledge of UK payroll legislation and HMRC requirements.
  • Experience managing complex payrolls within a medium to large organisation.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • The ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
  • Experience using payroll systems and Microsoft Excel.
  • A proactive approach with the ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.
