Summary: The Payment System Programme Manager role involves leading the delivery of complex business change and transformation initiatives within a consultancy environment. The position requires overseeing high-impact programmes, ensuring adherence to governance standards, and engaging with senior stakeholders. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in financial services and a proven track record in managing large-scale transformation programmes. This is a contract position classified as inside IR35, with a hybrid working arrangement based in Northampton.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the delivery of multi-million-pound business change programmes across risk, digital credentialing, and organisational transformation
- Operate as deputy to a senior Managing Director, with visibility across multiple workstreams
- Ensure programme governance, status reporting, and risk mitigation are executed to the highest standard
- Engage with stakeholders at senior leadership level, including Managing Directors and ExCo-level executives
- Navigate and stabilise complex delivery environments with ambiguous and shifting priorities
- Drive end-to-end delivery including planning, budgeting, milestone tracking, and benefits realisation
- Identify and manage unconnected risks and dependencies impacting programme success
- Embed best practices for change delivery, with strong process discipline and a hands-on delivery mindset
Key Skills:
- Smartpay / Gateway C&C experience highly desirable
- Extensive experience in financial services is essential
- Proven track record delivering large-scale, cross-functional transformation programmes
- Strong grasp of risk, control, and governance in large organisations
- Ability to lead business transformation (not just tech-led change)
- Resilient, calm under pressure, and adept at working through complex stakeholder and governance structures
