Summary: The Payment System Programme Manager role involves leading the delivery of complex business change and transformation initiatives within a consultancy environment. The position requires overseeing high-impact programmes, ensuring adherence to governance standards, and engaging with senior stakeholders. This is a contract position classified as inside IR35, with a hybrid working arrangement based in Northampton.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the delivery of multi-million-pound business change programmes across risk, digital credentialing, and organisational transformation
  • Operate as deputy to a senior Managing Director, with visibility across multiple workstreams
  • Ensure programme governance, status reporting, and risk mitigation are executed to the highest standard
  • Engage with stakeholders at senior leadership level, including Managing Directors and ExCo-level executives
  • Navigate and stabilise complex delivery environments with ambiguous and shifting priorities
  • Drive end-to-end delivery including planning, budgeting, milestone tracking, and benefits realisation
  • Identify and manage unconnected risks and dependencies impacting programme success
  • Embed best practices for change delivery, with strong process discipline and a hands-on delivery mindset

Key Skills:

  • Smartpay / Gateway C&C experience highly desirable
  • Extensive experience in financial services is essential
  • Proven track record delivering large-scale, cross-functional transformation programmes
  • Strong grasp of risk, control, and governance in large organisations
  • Ability to lead business transformation (not just tech-led change)
  • Resilient, calm under pressure, and adept at working through complex stakeholder and governance structures

They are seeking a seasoned and resilient Programme Director to lead the delivery of a portfolio of complex business change and transformation initiatives. This individual will be overseeing high-impact programmes at varying stages of maturity - from in-flight delivery to programme closure.

You will be responsible for shaping delivery strategy, ensuring execution against Group ExCo-level standards, and managing multi-dimensional change in a fast-paced environment.
