Packaging Engineer

As a Packaging Engineer, you will play a critical role in designing and delivering robust, cost-effective, and sustainable packaging solutions that support safety, quality, and operational efficiency across the supply chain.

Job Duties/Responsibilities

• Lead the design, development, and optimisation of packaging solutions for a wide range of products, ensuring alignment with safety, quality, delivery, and cost targets; providing detailed guidance and specifications to suppliers.
• Collaborate closely with suppliers, logistics providers, and cross-functional teams to define packaging requirements and ensure successful implementation
• Following procedures in approving all packaging for a specific product line.
• Drive solutions that minimize the risk of transportation damage
• Evaluating packaging materials, automation technologies and machinery, and reporting the results regularly.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives, focusing on damage reduction and safety, using root cause analysis and risk-based decision making
• Adheres to the packaging development process and assists in executing key packaging phases.
• Support supplier visits and travel to Desford facility for occasional training purposes.

Required Qualifications

• Able to demonstrate significant experience gathered within an industrial packaging / material handling equipment context.
• Self starter who is able to work with little to no supervision
• Is capable of utilising 3D CAD software in order to perform design reviews
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to influence, challenge, and collaborate effectively across all levels
• Has strong project management experience and can provide examples of project leadership.
• A proactive mindset with a focus on continuous improvement and innovation
• Ability to balance cost, performance, and sustainability considerations when developing solutions
• Familiarity with global supply chains
