Summary: The Packaging Engineer role is a contract position focused on designing and developing packaging solutions for aerospace cabin lighting equipment. The contractor will ensure compliance with aerospace standards while collaborating with various teams to deliver high-quality packaging systems. This position emphasizes precision, quality, and sustainability in packaging engineering. The role is based in Newport, Wales, and is classified as outside IR35.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and develop custom packaging for aerospace components and assemblies.
- Evaluate packaging needs based on product fragility, transport mode, and environmental factors.
- Ensure compliance with UK and international aerospace standards (ATA 300, ISO, OEM specs).
- Conduct qualification testing (drop, vibration, compression, environmental).
- Collaborate with Design, Quality, Procurement, Logistics, and suppliers.
- Create detailed packaging specifications and documentation.
- Work with external suppliers to source materials and develop cost-effective solutions.
Key Skills:
- Proven experience in packaging engineering within aerospace or high-value manufacturing.
- Strong knowledge of packaging standards for electronic products.
- Experience with protective packaging (foam, corrosion protection, shock-absorbing systems).
- Familiarity with sustainable and reusable packaging practices.
- Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar).
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage shifting priorities.
- High attention to detail and commitment to quality and compliance.
