About Our Outside IR35 Business Development Contract Roles
What does a business development contractor do?
Organisations bring in Business Development contractors to identify, develop, and convert new commercial opportunities, working to grow revenue through new client acquisition, market expansion, or the development of new products and partnerships. The work spans a range of activities depending on the seniority and focus of the engagement: prospecting and outreach, qualifying leads, building relationships with potential clients, presenting proposals, negotiating commercial terms, and managing the pipeline through to close. Business Development contractors are brought in most commonly when an organisation is entering a new market, launching a new product or service, or when the permanent sales team needs additional capacity during a period of high growth.
Business Development contractors are expected to be self-starters who can operate with minimal direction, build a credible pipeline quickly, and represent the organisation professionally with senior external stakeholders. Experience working with CRM platforms such as Salesforce or HubSpot to manage pipeline activity is widely expected. For more senior roles, the ability to develop commercial strategy, manage complex multi-stakeholder sales processes, and negotiate high-value contracts is the primary differentiator.
