Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage, optimize, and secure Oracle database environments on RHEL, Azure, and AWS.
  • Utilize AWR, ASH, ADDM, and OEM for performance diagnostics and monitoring.
  • Perform RMAN backups, Data Pump operations, and validate backups for DR readiness.
  • Automate DBA tasks using Shell scripts and cron jobs.
  • Support HA/DR architectures across on-prem, Azure, and AWS.
  • Collaborate with application developers and DevOps engineers on schema changes and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Ensure compliance with GDPR, ISO, and internal governance standards.
  • Maintain documentation for configurations, procedures, and DR runbooks.

Key Skills:

  • Strong expertise in Oracle administration and performance tuning.
  • Experience with Azure and RHEL platforms.

Detailed Description From Employer:

We are seeking an experienced Oracle Database Administrator to manage, optimise, and secure Oracle database environments on Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) as well as Azure and AWS cloud platforms. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in Oracle administration, performance tuning, automation and cloud-native deployments. Inside of IR35 £550 - £625 a day 6-month contract Hybrid between with Havant or Reading/rest of the time work from home.

Candidates must have some of the following technical experience:

  • Recent experience of Azure and of recently working on RHEL platform - essential.
  • AWR (Automatic Workload Repository) – for gathering performance statistics and generating reports on system load.
  • ASH (Active Session History) – for real-time session-level performance diagnostics.
  • ADDM (Automatic Database Diagnostic Monitor) – for automated analysis and tuning recommendations.
  • OEM (Oracle Enterprise Manager) – for centralised monitoring, alerting, and automation.
  • OS-level tools Tune SQL, SGA/PGA memory, CPU, and I/O performance.
  • Perform RMAN backups and Data Pump operations.
  • Validate backups and ensure DR readiness (Data Guard, cloud backups).
  • Support HA/DR architectures across on-prem, Azure, and AWS.
  • Automate DBA tasks using Shell scripts and cron jobs.
  • Create scripts for monitoring, backup checks, and maintenance.
  • Resolve complex issues related to I/O, memory, CPU, and network performance.
  • Work with Linux, cloud, storage, and application teams to resolve cross-stack issues.

Cloud & DevOps Collaboration

Support deployments, migrations, and integration activities across Azure and AWS (EC2, RDS, S3, Azure VM, Azure Backup, Azure Storage). Work closely with application developers, DevOps engineers, and infrastructure teams on schema changes, CI/CD pipelines, and environment provisioning.

Compliance & Documentation

Ensure compliance with GDPR, ISO, and internal governance standards. Maintain documentation for configurations, procedures and DR runbooks!

Certifications

Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) or equivalent certification preferred. Cloud certifications such as Azure Administrator, AWS Solutions Architect Associate, or Database Specialty are advantageous.
