Summary: The role of an IT Oracle Database Administrator involves managing, optimizing, and securing Oracle database environments across Red Hat Enterprise Linux and cloud platforms like Azure and AWS. The candidate will be responsible for database installation, performance tuning, security management, and automation of DBA tasks. Strong expertise in Oracle administration and cloud-native deployments is essential for success in this position. This is a 6-month contract based in Reading, Berkshire.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install, configure, and upgrade Oracle Database software on Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) systems.
- Configure and manage database storage structures including tablespaces, data files, and Oracle Automatic Storage Management (ASM).
- Support cloud database deployments and hybrid setups in Azure and AWS (IaaS, PaaS, lift-and-shift, storage integration).
- Administer users, roles, privileges, and authentication.
- Implement encryption, auditing, and compliance controls.
- Apply quarterly CPU/RU patches across environments.
- Monitor and analyse performance using AWR, ASH, ADDM, OEM, and OS-level tools.
- Tune SQL, SGA/PGA memory, CPU, and I/O performance.
- Perform RMAN backups and Data Pump operations.
- Validate backups and ensure DR readiness (Data Guard, cloud backups).
- Support HA/DR architectures across on-prem, Azure, and AWS.
- Automate DBA tasks using Shell scripts and cron jobs.
- Create scripts for monitoring, backup checks, and maintenance.
- Resolve complex issues related to I/O, memory, CPU, and network performance.
- Work with Linux, cloud, storage, and application teams to resolve cross-stack issues.
- Support deployments, migrations, and integration activities across Azure and AWS.
- Work closely with application developers, DevOps engineers, and infrastructure teams on schema changes, CI/CD pipelines, and environment provisioning.
- Ensure compliance with GDPR, ISO, and internal governance standards.
- Maintain documentation for configurations, procedures, and DR runbooks.
- Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) or equivalent certification preferred.
- Cloud certifications such as Azure Administrator, AWS Solutions Architect Associate, or Database Specialty are advantageous.

Key Responsibilities
Database Installation & Configuration

- Tune SQL, SGA/PGA memory, CPU, and I/O performance.
Backup, Recovery & High Availability
- Perform RMAN backups and Data Pump operations.
- Validate backups and ensure DR readiness (Data Guard, cloud backups).
- Support HA/DR architectures across on-prem, Azure, and AWS.
Automation & Scripting
