Summary: The Oracle Database Administrator role involves providing proactive database support and maintenance for critical production services within the Financial Services sector. The position requires collaboration with other teams and Lead Database Engineers to resolve operational issues while primarily working remotely with occasional on-site workshops in Glasgow or Newcastle. The contract is for an initial duration of six months and falls inside IR35 regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide effective and proactive database support & maintenance for critical production services across multiple database technologies (predominantly Oracle & SQL Server).
• Administer database lifecycle support including provisioning, deletion, patching, upgrading, and migrating.
• Manage back-up and recovery, monitoring and alerting, change and incident management, troubleshooting, tuning, and disaster recovery.
• Collaborate with other teams and escalate issues to Lead Database Engineers to ensure operational issues are resolved within agreed SLAs.

Key Skills:

• Strong understanding and experience of database administration across Oracle and SQL Server.
• Ability to troubleshoot production issues analytically and make recommendations for resolution and enhancements.
• Experience in database builds, patching, migrations, and upgrades.
• Knowledge of High Availability and Disaster Recovery methods including Oracle RAC, Oracle Restart, ASM, Oracle Data Guard, and SQL Server Always On High Availability.
• Database performance tuning and optimisation skills.
• Experience using Oracle Enterprise Manager.
• Familiarity with Oracle/Red Hat Linux, Windows, AIX, and Solaris Operating Systems.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills and collaborative behaviours.
• Awareness of ITIL Service Management processes (Incident, Change & Problem Management).
