Summary: Airswift is seeking an Operations Geologist for a 1-year temporary contract with a leading energy company in Trinidad & Tobago. The role involves supporting well planning activities, collaborating with subsurface teams, and managing geological operations to ensure safety and efficiency. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in geological operations and well planning, with a strong focus on data quality and risk management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support well planning activities, ensuring safety, compliance with regulations, and efficiency in meeting defined well objectives.
- Collaborate with subsurface and wells teams to ensure integration of well planning and operational activities.
- Assist in the creation of key documents like Well Initiation Document (WID), No Drilling Surprises (NDS), and operational decision trees.
- Help create and manage pre-drill risk registers, and ensure mitigation and contingency plans are in place for geological risks.
- Assist in the development of the Statement of Requirements (SOR) document, including well objectives, data acquisition, and overburden characterization.
- Ensure appropriate resourcing of well-site geologists both onshore and offshore, through effective supplier engagement.
- Lead the construction of the Geological Operations Plan (GOP), ensuring it contains all relevant information.
- Manage contractor performance for key well-site services such as mudlogging, wireline/LWD, and geological services.
- Lead the daily subsurface operations meetings and represent subsurface interests in the morning wells rig call.
- Interpret and select formation tops, casing, and core points according to SOR and decision trees.
- Ensure efficient delivery of data acquisition programs, ensuring data quality and security of sensitive subsurface data.
- Collaborate with subsurface and wells teams to achieve well objectives safely and efficiently.
- Provide support to the operations petrophysicist in the quality control of data acquisition programs and procedures.
- Contribute to post-well activities such as completing the End of Well (EOW) Report, finalizing data, and conducting after-action reviews.
- Engage in root cause analysis for any non-productive time (NPT) related to subsurface operations.
- Support the development of national staff through learning sessions and workshops.
Key Skills:
- University degree in Geology or related field.
- 8-15+ years of relevant industry experience, primarily in geological operations environments.
- Experience in well planning and operations geology, with strong knowledge of drilling operations, pore pressure, and mudlogging.
- Proficient in geological, seismic, and petrophysical log interpretation; experience with Petrel and TechLog is highly desirable.
- Experience with deepwater exploration and development wells, especially in the Gulf of Mexico, is a plus.
- Fluent English.
