Summary: The role of On-site Systems Engineer in Farnborough involves supporting the AMPA programme, which is crucial for the delivery and growth of the Advanced Mission Planning Aid used by the RAF and foreign Air Forces. The Systems Engineer will be responsible for maintaining computing facilities, providing project support, and ensuring system performance and availability. The position requires a minimum of SC clearance and involves working closely with the Systems Team Lead to meet project requirements. The role also includes internal help desk support and managing system administration tasks within the AMPA Quality Management System.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure availability of facilities for the AMPA team to deliver contracted support and change requirements.
- Provide access to the Project Support Environment for AMPA requirements.
- Offer internal system help desk support to AMPA staff.
- Maintain a schedule of work for administration and maintenance of facilities.
- Undertake System Administration tasks as per the System Team Backlog.
- Monitor and report on environment performance.
- Manage system performance and availability, ensuring data backup and restoration capabilities.
- Work within the AMPA Quality Management System and defined procedures.
- Provide licensing support and obtain quotes for software used on the account.
- Participate in weekend working for software patching and be on call for rare occurrences.
Key Skills:
- Minimum SC clearance.
- Experience with Active Directory.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Server suites and Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
- Knowledge of software updates via WSUS.
- Experience with VMware and VEEAM backups.
- Understanding of SQL Databases.
- Experience maintaining software solutions on various hardware platforms.
- Knowledge of TCP/IP & Static Networking, including Aruba Procurve switches.
- Customer-facing experience is desirable.
- Familiarity with IBM Rational suite (ClearCase / ClearQuest) and software license management.
- Experience in printer management and MS Office suite.
- Knowledge of PowerShell and scripting.
- Understanding of physical hardware configuration and ability to build/modify COTS equipment.
- Familiarity with Windows Defender and Trellix Anti-virus.
