Summary: The Observability & Monitoring Engineer role requires a professional with MOD DV Clearance to ensure optimal observability and security monitoring for IT services. The position involves maintaining server uptime, developing monitoring dashboards, and optimizing security posture. The engineer will work closely with stakeholders to enhance detection capabilities and address current threats. This is a 12-month contract based in Herefordshire, requiring on-site presence.
Key Responsibilities:
- Server Management: maintain server uptime and patch management.
- Ensure new technologies are sufficiently monitored in accordance with pre-defined timeframes.
- Leverage Observability tools to provide real-time monitoring and anomaly detection, liaising with stakeholders to develop SLA monitoring dashboards.
- Optimise security posture by advising on security recommendations, best practices and latest CVEs.
- Infrastructure security design and configuration.
- Assist with threat modelling to identify gaps in coverage and improve detections.
Key Skills:
- 3 years’ experience supporting/developing IT infrastructure monitoring (Elastic Stack, PRTG, Splunk etc.).
- Experience of data retrieval from multiple sources within a distributed deployment.
- Experience developing dashboards for IT Ops monitoring, visibility and alerts.
- Elasticsearch/Kibana experience.
- Logstash experience.
- Experience with Linux based OS.
- Administration of PRTG.
- Elastic Certified Engineer / Elastic Observability Engineer / CCNA/CompTIA Net+ / CompTIA Sec+.

Role details:
We’re partnering with a leading consultancy who support the operation and assurance of IT services for the MOD. They are looking for an Observability & Monitoring Engineer to ensure maximum observability and security monitoring coverage, provide and maintain suitable dashboards and keep ahead of current threats to tailor detections.

- Server Management: maintain server uptime and patch management.
