Network Security Engineer – Firewall Rule Optimization (AlgoSec) | £400 - £450 per day (Inside IR35) | 6-month initial contract | Start: ASAP | On site, 3 days per week in Manchester
Our client is looking for a Network Security Engineer to reduce risk from overly permissive firewall rules and routing that bypasses proxy controls.
This is a hands-on remediation role within a three-person team, with one engineer each in India, the UK and the US.
You’ll work through years of accumulated rule changes as part of an AlgoSec-led cleanup, and align the outcome to the client’s target-state security design.
Interviews are commencing imminently.
What you’ll do
- Review and tighten overly permissive firewall rules using AlgoSec analysis
- Identify and remediate routing that bypasses proxy controls
- Work with application and infrastructure owners to agree, implement and validate rule changes
- Document changes and hand off cleanly across India, UK and US time zones
- Align all work with the target-state security design
What you’ll bring
- Firewall engineering and rule-base optimisation experience
- Strong routing knowledge and Layer 4 through Layer 7 understanding
- Experience working under change control in a regulated enterprise environment
Nice to have
- Hands-on AlgoSec or similar rule-analysis tools
- Proxy experience, such as Blue Coat/Symantec or Skyhigh
- Financial services background
