Summary: The Network Monitoring Engineer role at ASK4 is a hands-on position focused on designing and implementing monitoring solutions for a dark fibre rollout program over a 6-month fixed-term contract. The engineer will work with modern tools to ensure full observability of the network infrastructure and collaborate closely with Core Networks and NOC teams. Candidates are also welcome to discuss day rate options. The position requires proven experience in network monitoring and engineering, particularly with tools like VictoriaMetrics and Nagios.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and deploy end-to-end monitoring solutions across new dark fibre infrastructure.
  • Build streaming telemetry pipelines for real-time, low-latency network visibility.
  • Configure and optimise VictoriaMetrics (ingestion, retention, performance tuning).
  • Implement and manage Nagios-based monitoring for alerting and service health.
  • Integrate AI-driven analytics for anomaly detection and predictive fault identification.
  • Develop Grafana dashboards (or equivalent) for operational and engineering insights.
  • Commission monitoring across fibre nodes, OLTs, and Layer 1–3 network equipment.
  • Align monitoring with evolving network topology alongside Core Network teams.
  • Define baseline metrics and SLA-driven alert thresholds.
  • Continuously improve monitoring architecture, tooling, and processes.

  • Provide progress updates and contribute to project review.

Key Skills:

  • Proven experience in a senior network monitoring / network engineering role (ISP, managed network, or large-scale infrastructure).
  • Strong hands-on experience with VictoriaMetrics in production.
  • Solid knowledge of Nagios (configuration, plugins, alerting workflows).
  • Experience with streaming telemetry (gNMI/gRPC, Telegraf, gNMIc).
  • Exposure to AI/ML-driven monitoring or anomaly detection.
  • Strong networking fundamentals: TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, VLANs, optical networks.
  • Ability to work independently and deliver to project milestones.
  • Excellent documentation and communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on reliability and quality engineering.
