Summary: The Network Engineer role is a 20-month fixed-term contract focused on delivering a reliable and high-performing network for the university. The position involves designing, implementing, and maintaining the network infrastructure, including wired and wireless capabilities. Candidates will engage in hands-on engineering and troubleshooting while collaborating with IT colleagues to enhance service delivery. Additionally, the role contributes to significant modernization projects, such as a campus-wide Wi-Fi refresh and core data center upgrades.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, implement, maintain, and optimize the university’s network estate.
- Engage in hands-on engineering and troubleshooting of complex network issues.

Post holders will play a key role in delivering a reliable, secure, and high-performing network across the campus. As part of the Network and Infrastructure Product Team, you’ll design, implement, maintain, optimise, and improve the University’s network estate – including wired, wireless, routing, switching and security capabilities. The role includes hands-on engineering, troubleshooting complex issues, and collaborating closely with colleagues across IT to ensure high-quality service delivery. You will also contribute to major upcoming modernisation programmes such as the campus-wide Wi-Fi refresh and the replacement of core data centre switching infrastructure, helping shape the next generation of our network services.
About You
You will have significant experience of administering and supporting a Cisco based network environment. You will have a customer focussed approach to problem solving with the ability to troubleshoot complex issues and provide effective solutions. You will continuously improve processes, automation, resilience and performance, operating within an ITIL service model and Agile product environment.
