Venesky-Brown’s client, a public sector organisation in Edinburgh, is currently looking to recruit a Network Field Engineer (LAN) for an initial 12 month contract with option to extend on a rate of £450/day (Outside IR35). This role will be based in Edinburgh, however, attendance at the project site will only be required on an as-needed basis.
Responsibilities:
- Maintaining accurate records in relation to the identification, workings and testing of switch replacements, power hardware and cabling across the organisation, reporting back to key project personnel when required.
- Documenting deployed infrastructure
- Ensure all devices are added to operational management systems
- Drawing up snagging lists for 3rd parties, including power delivery, cabling and racking.
Essential Skills:
- Ability to work in partnership with IT colleagues, contract companies and operational colleagues attending multiple sites all over Scotland working nights and if required weekends with partners.
- Good working knowledge of how Cisco Switches work and are installed and configured for layer 2 and 3 workloads over various sizes of sites.
- Working knowledge of cabinet power delivery to network/server rooms using UPS, PDU, ATS and bypasses
- Good working knowledge of best practice approaches to testing cabling, equipment in primary and distribution cabinets.
- The ability to identify the equipment installed on customer premises that relates to switches and structured cabling presentation, often in busy and congested comms rooms and cabinets. Documentation and identification of other cabinet contents will be required, some kit will need to be moved/installed from external due to past lack of space.
