Summary: The Network Field Engineer will be responsible for a LAN Replacement and Upgrade Project across multiple sites in Scotland. This role involves collaboration with IT and operational teams, requiring knowledge of Cisco Switches and power delivery systems. The position is a 12-month contract, offering a daily rate of £450 outside IR35.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ability to work in partnership with IT colleagues, contract companies and operational colleagues attending multiple sites all over Scotland working nights and if required weekends with partners.
- Good working knowledge of how Cisco Switches work and are installed and configured for layer 2 and 3 workloads over various sizes of sites.
- Working knowledge of cabinet power delivery to network/server rooms using UPS, PDU, ATS and bypasses.
- Good working knowledge of best practice approaches to testing cabling, equipment in primary and distribution cabinets.
- The ability to identify the equipment installed on customer premises that relates to Switches and structured cabling presentation, often in busy and congested comms rooms and cabinets. Documentation and identification of other cabinet contents will be required, some kit will need to be moved/installed from external due to past lack of space.
- Maintaining accurate records in relation to the identification, workings and testing of switch replacements, power hardware and cabling across the national estate, reporting back to key project personnel when required.
- Documenting deployed infrastructure.
- Ensure all devices are added to operational management systems (SolarWinds, Catalyst Centre, ThousandEyes).
- Drawing up snagging lists for 3rd parties, including power delivery, cabling and racking.
Key Skills:
- Experience with Cisco Switches and their configuration for layer 2 and 3 workloads.
- Knowledge of cabinet power delivery systems including UPS, PDU, ATS.
- Familiarity with testing cabling and equipment in network/server rooms.
- Ability to document and identify equipment in congested comms rooms.
- Strong record-keeping and reporting skills.
- Experience with operational management systems such as SolarWinds, Catalyst Centre, ThousandEyes.
