Summary: The Network Engineer role involves collaborating with stakeholders to design and optimize a robust network infrastructure that supports strategic goals and operational activities. Key Responsibilities:

  • Standardize operations across all sites according to established network policies and procedures.
  • Participate in projects to expand and enhance network capabilities.
  • Monitor, support, and maintain network infrastructure, including routers, switches, and firewalls.
  • Act as an escalation point for network triage/troubleshooting.
  • Work with the IT Security Team to ensure network security against unauthorized access and cyber threats.
  • Provide insights, investigations, optimization, and analysis of the network.

Key Skills:

  • Experience in designing network components using agreed architectures and standards.
  • Ability to translate logical designs into physical designs for capacity and performance.
  • Knowledge of networking protocols and technologies such as LAN, WAN, and Telecoms.
  • Excellent analytical capability for evaluating information and developing recommendations.
  • Experience in 2nd and 3rd line support roles specializing in Networks and Telecoms.
  • In-depth knowledge of network protocols, standards, and technologies (e.g., TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP).
  • Proficiency in configuring and managing network devices like routers and firewalls.
  • Strong understanding of network security principles and practices.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills for troubleshooting complex network issues.

description: Network Engineer UK £37,500 - £40,900 Responsibilities Play an instrumental role in the Technology Services team, working with stakeholders to help with design and optimise a robust network infrastructure to support strategic goals, projects and operational activities. Help to ensure seamless connectivity across various sites, enhancing visitor experiences. Work with the Network Architect and other key stakeholders and suppliers to assist in technical expertise to maintain and optimise network infrastructure, executing changes, recommendations and solutions to support business needs, some of which may be on-site implementation support. Troubleshoot and resolve complex network issues, minimising downtime and operational disruptions. Conduct regular network assessments and upgrades to ensure optimal performance and security. Work according to established network policies and procedures to standardise operations across all sites. Take part in projects to expand and enhance network capabilities, supporting the charity's growth and innovation. What you'll be doing as part of the team Working with our suppliers to monitor, support and maintain network infrastructure, including routers, switches, firewalls, and other network devices. Act as an escalation point for network triage/troubleshooting, ensuring minimal downtime and business disruption. Work with the IT Security Team to ensure the network is secure and protected against unauthorised access and cyber threats You will be working in conjunction with a wide range of internal stakeholders in a Matrix Management structure, reporting to the Network Architect, within the Technology Services team of English Heritage. You will provide insights, investigations, optimisation, and analysis of the English Heritage network with the support of tools and external partners/suppliers, ensuring existing processes and policies are followed, providing reports and proposals for improvements and changes following industry best practices. Essential Experience Experience in designing specific network components using agreed architectures, design standards, patterns and methodology. Experience in translating logical designs into physical designs that meet specified requirements for capacity and performance Good high-level knowledge/practical experience of networking protocols and technologies such as LAN (vLan, TCP), WAN (SD-WAN), Telecoms (Cloud and on prem), WLAN Excellent analytical capability with the ability to methodically evaluate information and develop appropriate recommendations and solutions. Ability to review and verify network designs against non-functional requirements, including validation, access, security and audit controls. Experience of working in 2nd and 3rd line support roles specialising in Networks, Telecoms and Engineering fields. Skills In-depth knowledge of network protocols, standards, and technologies (e.g., TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, Routing, firewall policy management, network monitoring). Proficiency in configuring and managing network devices such as routers, switches, and firewalls. Strong understanding of network security principles and practices, including firewalls, VPNs, and intrusion detection systems. Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex network issues. Excellent ability to understand and interpret customer business problems and complex technical issues, and effectively explain how a solution will align to the customer's needs or requirements.
