Summary: The Network Field Engineer (LAN) role involves managing and supporting LAN replacement and upgrade activities across multiple sites in Scotland. The position requires hands-on experience with Cisco switches and the ability to work closely with IT teams and stakeholders. The role is contract-based for 12 months with potential for extension and requires travel around Scotland. Candidates must have their own vehicle for this position.
Key Responsibilities:
- Managing and supporting LAN replacement and upgrade activity across multiple sites
- Working closely with IT teams, contractors and operational stakeholders across Scotland
- Installing, configuring and supporting Cisco switches (Layer 2 & Layer 3)
- Supporting work within comms rooms and cabinets including structured cabling
- Managing and validating power systems including UPS, PDU and ATS
- Testing cabling, switches and associated infrastructure
- Identifying and documenting existing network equipment within complex environments
- Maintaining accurate records of installations, testing and deployed infrastructure
- Ensuring all devices are added to operational management systems (e.g. SolarWinds, Catalyst Centre, ThousandEyes)
- Working with 3rd parties to identify issues and produce snagging lists
Key Skills:
- Strong experience working with Cisco switching (Layer 2 & Layer 3)
- Hands-on experience delivering LAN / network infrastructure upgrades
- Solid understanding of structured cabling and comms room environments
- Experience working with network power systems (UPS, PDU, ATS)
- Proven ability to test and troubleshoot network infrastructure
- Strong documentation and organisational skills
- Ability to manage multiple site-based activities and work with stakeholders
- Experience working in public sector or regulated environments is beneficial

One of Lorien’s key public sector clients is looking for a Network Field Engineer (LAN) to join their team on an initial 12-month contract (Possible 12 month extension)
PLEASE NOTE - TRAVEL AROUND SCOTLAND WITH OWN VEHICLE IS REQUIRED
