Summary: A Network Engineer is needed for a 6-month contract in Edinburgh, primarily remote with some site visits. The role focuses on the design, build, and optimization of network infrastructure in a cloud-centric environment, requiring expertise in various networking technologies. Responsibilities include supporting datacentre relocation and management, enhancing network performance, and contributing to disaster recovery activities. Key Responsibilities:
- Support the design, build, and optimization of network infrastructure.
- Assist in the relocation of a datacentre, including installation and configuration of network devices.
- Lead datacentre planning and management, including power distribution and design best practices.
- Improve network and Firewall performance through ongoing enhancements.
- Maintain vulnerability management processes.
- Contribute to disaster recovery assurance activities, including weekend testing.
- Provide consultancy and support across various infrastructure projects.
- Perform tasks outside standard business hours as needed for service continuity.
Key Skills:
- Strong expertise with Palo Alto technologies.
- Significant experience with Cisco and Juniper platforms.
- Advanced routing and switching knowledge (OSPF, BGP).
- Proficiency in Layer 2/3 design topologies.
- NSX and Palo Alto Firewall administration.
- Experience with Cisco Nexus.
- Deep understanding of OSPF/BGP design and tuning.
- Datacentre management and best-practice implementation.
- Agile ways of working (Kanban, retrospectives).
- Strong risk awareness and attention to detail.
- Proven experience leading infrastructure projects.
- Creative problem-solving and knowledge-sharing mindset.
- Certifications: CCNP (minimum), with preference for ACE, CCIE, PCNSE.

A highly skilled Network Engineer is required to support the design, build, and optimisation of new and existing network infrastructure within a cloud-focused, agile environment. The role sits within a multi-disciplinary resilience team committed to delivering robust, high-quality digital services.
The role involves supporting the relocation of a datacentre, including the installation and configuration of Routers, Switches, Firewalls, and remote access devices, while also leading datacentre planning and management such as power distribution and best-practice design. It includes improving network and Firewall performance, enhancing the new network platform through ongoing incremental improvements, and maintaining vulnerability management processes. The position contributes to disaster recovery assurance activities, including scheduled weekend testing, and provides consultancy, optimisation, and support across datacentre, campus network, Wi-Fi refresh, and wider infrastructure projects. Some tasks may need to be carried out outside standard business hours to ensure service continuity.

Any experience with Arista CloudVision, alongside strong familiarity with monitoring platforms such as ThousandEyes, Catchpoint, and AppNeta and a grounding in security architecture, SDN and NSX environments, Cisco OTV, and VMware vSphere, including cross-site deployments would be advantageous.
